Regional Chair Gary Carr: Prime Minister Trudeau makes housing announcement in Halton Region
Apr 24, 2024
On Wednesday, April 24, we had the honour of hosting Prime Minister Trudeau, Minister Fraser and Minister Anand as they made a housing announcement highlighting 2024 Budget measures focused on building homes on public lands.
As one of the fastest growing communities in the country, creating more housing options is a top priority for Halton Region. We have active and construction-ready projects in our housing portfolio that position us well to increase our assisted and supportive housing supply.
As part of Halton’s Comprehensive Housing Strategy, we are creating new assisted and supportive housing units on lands owned by Halton Region. With construction underway and additional projects in various stages of pre-development as well as a strong commitment to deliver the required housing-enabling infrastructure, the Region is ready to deliver more assisted housing opportunities to increase housing supply.
Active construction underway include:
- 265 Kerr Street, Oakville: This new 4-storey building will provide 52 assisted housing rental apartments for older adults of which 22 are for supportive housing, with expected completion in 2024.
- 1258 Rebecca Street, Oakville: This project will provide 14 semi-detached, one-bedroom bungalows for supportive and assisted housing for seniors, with expected completion in 2025.
