LookSee Checklist (formerly NDDS)  for Child Care Professionals

The LookSee Checklist (formerly NDDS) is a quick checklist of the key skills most children master by a certain age. Learn about how to use the LookSee Checklist to help Halton Region parents understand their child's development.

The LookSee Checklist (formerly NDDS) is a quick checklist of the key skills most children master by a certain age. It has been developed for parents and is available across Halton Region. Parents in your setting would have most likely seen the 18 month LookSee Checklist, as it is a requirement for the 18-month visit with their healthcare provider. It can form a good basis for talking with a parent about their child’s development.

There are 13 LookSee checklists:

  • 1 & 2 months
  • 4 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months
  • 12 months
  • 15 months
  • 18 months
  • 2 years
  • 30 months
  • 3 years
  • 4 years
  • 5 years
  • 6 years

You can order the LookSee Checklist (formerly NDDS) online or by calling 311.

The activities on the back of the LookSee Checklist are designed to support child development in different areas. Each activity promotes a key area of development and is identified by a symbol. For example, this symbol identifies activities that support speech and language skills:

Children might do well in one area but lag a little in another area. Add these activities to what you have been doing and encourage parents to do the same.

The LookSee Checklist can help you to:

  • Learn more about a child’s development
  • Be aware of a child’s skills and abilities
  • Identify areas of a child’s development that might need extra attention
  • Identify community services that will support a child’s development that can be shared with parents

The checklists are currently available in English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Arabic, Russian and Farsi. You can find copies in these languages at lookseechecklist.com (external link) or contact Halton Region for print copies for families at your centre or school.

If one or more "No" boxes have been checked, or parents have questions or concerns about their child's health or development, then encourage the child’s family to seek help by calling 311. Our staff will discuss the concerns, suggest activities and, if needed, link families to additional services that will help meet their child's needs.
