Study overview

The existing wastewater main, located within the West Aldershot Creek valley in the City of Burlington, requires replacement due to age and creek bank erosion. This MCEA study will evaluate alternative options for a new wastewater main in the area.

The study is being conducted in accordance with the planning and design process for ‘Schedule B’ projects as outlined in the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (external link) (October 2000, as amended 2007, 2011 and 2015), which is approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, RSO. 1990.

Halton Region is seeking input from the public and other stakeholders to review the work completed and confirm the preferred option for the wastewater main replacement.

Preliminary preferred option

Through this study, Halton Region has considered several wastewater main alignment options. The preferred option for the Aldershot Creek Wastewater Main MCEA Study will replace the existing wastewater main within the same location and remove the existing wastewater main from the eroded creek bed, improving accessibility for maintenance and reducing the environmental impacts on the West Aldershot Creek corridor.

The option is considered preliminary until public, agency and Indigenous community feedback is received through this PIC.

The key features of the preferred option include:

• no impact to the private wastewater system of Townhouse complex;
• wastewater main will accommodate capacity requirements for future growth; and
• minimal impact on local community during construction.
