Annual audit and review confirm Halton continues to deliver safe, high quality drinking water

Nov 30, 2018

The 2018 Management Review and external systems audit of Halton Region’s Drinking Water Quality Management System has concluded that the Region continues to meet the Ontario Drinking Water Quality Management Standard (the Standard) and requirements under the province’s Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002.

Halton’s Drinking Water Quality Management System includes quality assurance processes for monitoring, testing, auditing and treating drinking water as part of the Region’s ongoing commitment to delivering clean and safe drinking water.

“Providing high quality drinking water to Halton residents and businesses is an important priority for Council,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “We are continuously upgrading and expanding our water management systems to meet the needs of our growing population so we can continue to provide reliable access to clean, safe drinking water for all to enjoy.”

The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks requires municipalities to establish an accredited Drinking Water Quality Management System. The annual Management Review, internal audits and the external third party audit assess and ensure the continuing suitability, adequacy and effectiveness of drinking water delivery. This information is used to identify opportunities for improvement. The audit concluded that the Region’s Drinking Water Quality Management System conforms to the Standard and highlighted the strengths of Halton’s system:

  • Management commitment
  • Continual improvement culture
  • Staff competency
  • Management review process
  • Internal audit process
  • Risk methodology
