Facilities where food is prepared for public consumption (such as restaurants and fast food outlets) will be closed for the duration of the Boil Water Advisory currently in effect for parts of Milton.
Earlier this evening, Halton Region’s Medical Officer of Health issued a precautionary Boil Water Advisory as a result of a recent watermain break. The advisory will remain in effect until laboratory tests can determine if contamination has occurred, and is expected to last until at least Monday, December 10, 2018.
The situation is being closely monitored to correct the problem. To view a map of the affected area in Milton, for more information or a copy of the Guidelines for Using Water Safely during a Boil Water Advisory and other updates, please visit halton.ca or call 311.
Boil your water at a rolling boil for at least one minute. Use boiled or bottled water from an approved source to:
- drink, gargle, brush teeth or rinse dentures;
- prepare food such as hot/cold beverages, ice cubes, and baby food or formula; and
- wash fruits, vegetables and other food.
Bathing and washing
- Adults, teens and older children may shower, bathe or wash using tap water, but should avoid swallowing the water. Toddlers and infants can be given sponge-baths instead of tub baths or showers.
- Use boiled (and cooled), bottled or treated water and soap to wash your hands. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers containing more than 60 per cent alcohol can be used when hands are not visibly soiled.
Dishwashing
- If your dishwasher has a hot setting of 60°C (140oF) or higher, it will safely disinfect dishes. If you are unsure, after finishing the cycle, immerse dishes for one minute in a solution of 30 ml (1 oz.) of bleach mixed with 13.5 litres (3 gallons) of lukewarm water. Air dry dishes.
- If you are washing dishes by hand, use soapy hot water, rinse in clean warm water, then immerse for one minute in a solution of 30 ml (1 oz.) of bleach mixed with 13.5 litres (3 gallons) of water. Air dry dishes.
