On June 5, the Halton Newcomer Strategy Steering Committee celebrated newcomers in Halton and profiled their contributions to the community at the third annual Halton Newcomer Strategy Recognition Event. Elected officials joined members of the Halton Newcomer Strategy Steering Committee and other guests to celebrate the accomplishments of this year’s honourees.
“The residents honoured by the Halton Newcomer Strategy Steering Committee have had a positive impact on our community through their commitment to business, education, youth and volunteering,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “Through their collaboration and involvement in the community, the award recipients have helped make Halton inclusive and welcoming for all newcomers.”
In total, 40 individuals and businesses were nominated in three categories: business, community and youth. The annual event profiled one nominee in each of these categories. This year’s profiled nominees are:
- Business—Raghad Alkhatib
- Community—Francisco Garzon
- Youth—Ashwini Selvakumaran
This event highlights the important role that newcomers play in bringing new perspectives, skills and insights to our community. It also celebrates how diverse backgrounds, traditions and talents help strengthen the region as a whole.
