Notice of Addendum: John Street Wastewater Pumping Station Upgrades Municipal Class Environmental Assessment

John Street Wastewater Pumping Station Upgrades
Town of Halton Hills

Study

Halton Region has undertaken a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) Addendum for the John Street Wastewater Pumping Station in the Town of Halton Hills to go alongside the original MCEA completed in 2018. The existing John Street Wastewater Pumping Station is located along John Street within Georgetown and requires significant capital upgrades. The MCEA Study Amendment has developed and evaluated a variety of relocation, replacement and/or rehabilitation alternatives that consider the existing environment as well as social and technical impacts.

Process

The MCEA Study Amendment was conducted in compliance with Schedule B of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (October 2000, amended 2007, 2011 and 2015), which is approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. The Study process included public and stakeholder consultation, development and evaluation of alternatives, an assessment of the impact of the proposed improvements and identification of measures to mitigate any adverse impacts.

The preferred solution for the John Street Wastewater Pumping Station is to modify the existing station to provide additional storage, twin the existing force main, construct an emergency overflow and upgrade the facility to meet Halton Region standards.

This MCEA Project File Report Amendment has been prepared to document the planning process followed, including conclusions, recommendations, and how public input was received and considered.

This Notice is placing the Project File Report Amendment placed on public record for a 30-calendar day review period starting March 14, 2024 and ending April 13, 2024 in accordance with the requirements of the MCEA process. Subject to comments received as a result of this Notice and the receipt of necessary approvals, Halton Region intends to proceed with the detailed design and construction of the preferred alternative solution as documented in the Project File Report Amendment.
