Regional Chair Gary Carr: Be winter ready

Keep yourself and the community safe this winter. Follow these three easy steps to ensure you are ready for winter weather and emergencies:

Know the risks

Check halton.ca for Emergency Alerts and Public Information to prepare for severe weather and other risks. Ontario’s Traveller Information (external link) page has an interactive map, alerts and links to other resources to help you plan for poor driving conditions.

Make a plan

Ensure that everyone in your family knows what to do before, during and after an emergency. If you live alone, make a plan for yourself and stay in contact with friends and neighbours. Our Make a Plan information on halton.ca has all the details.

Get a kit

Build an emergency kit with supplies that will last at least 72 hours for your entire household (this includes your pets). Make sure everyone in your home knows where to find it. It is also a good idea to have an emergency kit for your car. Our Preparing for Emergencies web page includes instructions on how to build many different types of emergency kits.

Being prepared also helps our first responders, so they can focus on those in immediate need during winter emergencies. Thank you for working together to keep Halton a great and safe place to live!
