The new year is a great time to refocus on our personal health and well-being. Whether it’s getting active, eating healthier or taking time for mental wellness, there are simple things you can build into your routine:
- One of the best things about Halton is our outdoor spaces. Schedule time for physical activity – it can boost your energy level and help with sleep. A winter hike, skating or a game of hockey are great ways to stay active at this time of the year! Going to the outdoor rink with my grandkids is one of my favourites.
- Drink lots of water, eat vegetables, fruit and whole grains daily and limit highly processed foods. Canada’s Food Guide (external link) is a great resource to get you started.
- Take short breaks throughout the day and do something that is just for you. If you work at a desk, get up and stretch on a regular basis.
- If you smoke, think about quitting.
Taking care of your mental health is just as important as your physical health. Our Health Department has many resources and there are great services in the community if you need them, including:
Thank you to our Health Department staff and community partners for all your support and information that keeps our community healthy, and a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire.
