At Regional Council this week, I was pleased to recognize Ogimaa (Chief) Stacey Laforme for his immense contributions and leadership as Chief of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation (external link) and congratulate him on his recent retirement.
Ogimaa Laforme has been a strong voice and champion for advancing Indigenous rights and representation and I am honoured to have been able to work with him so closely. He has been integral to the meaningful and collaborative relationship we have built with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
On June 20, 2022, Halton Region and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, under the leadership of Ogimaa Laforme, signed a Relationship Agreement formalizing ongoing work to build a constructive, collaborative and mutually respectful relationship. I am proud that Halton is one of the first municipalities in Ontario to sign such an agreement. This could not have been possible without Ogimaa Laforme’s leadership.
Ogimaa Laforme was first elected to the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation Council as a Councillor in 1999 and as Chief in 2015. He has represented and advocated for Indigenous People and communities for over 20 years.
