Connect with a volunteer parent in Halton for support and information on breastfeeding your child.

The Halton Breastfeeding Connection is a volunteer program that provides free parent-to-parent telephone support for breastfeeding parents.

Trained volunteers are parents who have breastfed a minimum of 6 months. These volunteers:

  • provide help with the normal process of nursing
  • share information, support and encouragement about breastfeeding
  • continue calls for as long as you require support - frequency is arranged between you and the volunteer

I'm pregnant

  • You can contact the Halton Breastfeeding Connection by calling the Health Department at 311 or 905-825-6000.
  • If you are interested in the program, you are encouraged to call or register online at least 1 month before your due date.
  • Your volunteer will contact you before your due date to get to know you and answer any questions you have.
  • After you give birth, your volunteer will call you regularly and you can also call them as needed.

How do I contact the Halton Breastfeeding Connection?

  • You can contact the Halton Breastfeeding Connection by calling the Health Department at 905-825-6000.
  • You can register online for a prenatal Halton Breastfeeding Connection option or postnatal Halton Breastfeeding Connection option. If you are currently pregnant and interested in the program, you are encouraged to register one month before your due date.
  • Your volunteer will contact you before your due date to get to know you and answer any questions you have.
  • After you give birth, your volunteer will call you regularly and you can also call them as needed.

Volunteer requirements

To be a volunteer we ask that you:

  • have breastfed for a minimum of 4-6 months.
  • have positive feelings about breastfeeding.
  • live in Halton and know about local parenting resources.
  • attend a half-day orientation session to:
    • learn more about us and your volunteer role
    • update your breastfeeding knowledge
    • learn about local breastfeeding supports
    • recognize when a client needs professional support
    • learn how to provide telephone support

Volunteer duties

As a telephone support volunteer you will:

  • Contact the parent prior to delivery
  • Provide support on a regular basis after baby comes home
  • Stay up to date on breastfeeding and related topics
  • Attend twice yearly update sessions
