Employment Programs and Supports

COJG provides direct financial support to individual employers who wish to purchase training for their workforce. Learn more about the COJG on our Skills and Training webpage.

Our free services include:

• Access to current local job postings
• On-site staff to help support your search
• Internet, fax machine and photocopier access
• Information resources: links to employment and training sites, books, career guides, local newspapers and business directories
• Employment workshops/employer presentations
• Better Jobs Ontario (external link) training opportunities
• Self-employment orientation sessions

We provide accessible features at our centres:

• Adjustable workstations
• Accessible software, including Zoom Text
• Support hearing impaired communication

For your convenience, we offer two locations.

• Oakville: 1151 Bronte Road, Oakville
• Milton: 470 Bronte Street South, Milton

Hours of operation: Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

We work with local employers to identify their needs and help get you access to the opportunities that are the best fit.

Job placement services are designed for individuals who are “job ready”. We can help:

• Connect you with employers
• Submit your applications and arrange for interviews
• Assist with on-the-job training plans
• Provide training incentives and employment supports to the employer
• Provide after-placement monitoring and support

Employment Halton offers support to individuals who struggle with managing their mental health or addiction.

A referral to our mental health program may include access to the following supports :

• vocational/cognitive assessments
• brief solution focused counselling
• cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) sessions
• application assistance for the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)
• referrals to community mental health programs/supports

Reach out. Our staff will work directly with you in your job search and preparation.

We can help you:

• Identify opportunities that match your skills and interests
• Access training (e.g., Better Jobs Ontario (external link) and apprenticeship opportunities)
• Prepare your cover letters and resume
• Rehearse for job interviews
• Connect to community resources

Halton Region recognizes the critical role of newcomers in sustaining the region’s economy and keeping our communities vibrant.

Halton Connects is an initiative that matches newcomers with Canadian citizens or longtime community members to:

• support short or long-term career/employment goals
• make professional and social connections with people in the community, while building meaningful relationships
• increase communication skills and understanding of life in Canada

The program consists of five days (approx. three hours per day) of preparation workshops, guest speakers, activities and English language conversation circles. The focus will be on supporting newcomers with:

• securing a volunteer opportunity; or
• connecting with a mentor in their educational/professional field.

Note: The program is delivered online. Participants will require access to a personal computer with a webcam or camera, reliable Wi-Fi/internet connection, and a private setting where they can attend online sessions.
